Domestic Violence & Harassment

Our dedicated domestic violence team will guide you through your options, to enable you to make an informed choice about the right steps for you to take.

We offer a confidential, no obligation service. You may want to ask our team for advice on your options and then decide take no further action: the choice will always be yours.

We will help you understand your options, including obtaining an injunction, securing your home with the assistance of the police, etc, as well as alternatives such as re-housing through the social sector.

Deciding to leave a family home because of domestic violence is only the first step. We work in partnership with advice agencies, including Victim Support and Women’s Aid, to enable us to make referrals where necessary for follow-up support services. We can also liaise with the police to secure your safety.

We offer free initial legal advice through “One Stop Shop” groups where all our partner agencies are present under one roof, including the police community safety unit.

No appointment is necessary. We offer a drop in service at all of our offices during the hours 10.00 a.m. – 12 noon and 2.00 – 4.00 p.m., Monday to Friday. To save time, you can shortly download the new client pack, complete it and bring it to the office for signing. We are happy to take instructions over the telephone, so that you have no problems with child care or needing time off work.

We can also deal with longer term issues, such as whether you want to separate permanently from your partner, any need to transfer of the tenancy of the family home, homelessness, and contact with children. Find out more in the Family Breakdown and Separation section if you have family issues - Family Breakdown and Separation

You might be concerned about your own behaviour towards your partner. There are organisations that can help. See our useful websites section for further information - useful websites

There can be situations where a person has been wrongly accused of domestic violence, we can advise on that as well.

It may be very difficult to know what to do for the best. We are here to help. If you want to discuss this, please contact Jane Pritchard, head of our Domestic Violence and Housing Team - direct dial 07786 15 11 66.
