Whether you are the parent of a child who is to be adopted, or are planning to adopt a child, this can be a slow and difficult process. For children, there can be lots of very conflicting feelings. Contact with birth parents can be a particularly tricky issue.
We can advise on adoption as well as representing birth parents, adoptive parents and children in court. Even if it is not possible for a child to stay living with his or her birth family, adoption may not be the best alternative, and we can advise on other possibilities, such as residence orders or special guardianship orders.
We can also talk through the question of post-adoption contact, including what support might be available to all concerned.
If you wish to discuss this further, please contact Nicola Harmon.
